Offense
The Buffaloes fell just short of their goal of a state championship last season, losing in the Class 5A semifinals. But as they enter the 2021 season, head coach Forrest Mazey says his squad now knows what it takes to reach the top. “We have a lot of talent coming back,” he said. “But we need to stay healthy and be better than we were last year to have a shot at what we want to accomplish. We got a small taste of what we can accomplish last season and I hope that our boys are hungry.” Quarterback Trent Boatright (6-1, 185, Sr.) is back after throwing for 1,982 yards and eleven touchdowns a year ago. Erik McCarty (6-2, 190, Jr.) and Dakota Moton (6-0, 190, Jr.) will both be back at running back this season after rushing for a combined 2,649 rushing yards and 39 touchdowns a year ago. The Buffaloes also bring back two playmakers on the outside in wide receivers Cale Prather (6-6, 190, Sr.) and Lleyton Bass (5-10, 170, Sr.). They totaled 880 receiving yards and eight touchdowns a year ago and look to be impact players again this season. Anchoring the offensive line will be Avion Simon (6-5, 340, Sr.), who tallied 25 pancake blocks last year. Caden Lesnau, Malachi Wrice, and Elijah Chatman are underclassmen for the Buffaloes that could be big-time players in the future.
