Kamryn Wilkett is a junior at McAlester and plays catcher and centerfield for the Lady Buffaloes. Wilkett has been playing softball since she was five years old and loves the camaraderie and bonding moments that come with playing on a team. Throughout the 2022 campaign Wilkett has gotten to experience more time at new positions and said that it has helped her game overall.
“Playing different positions this season has helped me grow as a player and a teammate,” Wilkett said.
Wilkett has enjoyed competing throughout the season and appreciates all the hard work that she and her teammates have put into their game this year. One game stands out in particular.
“My favorite memory from this season is probably when we played Broken Bow,” Wilkett said. “We were down by three and then came back and worked harder than ever as a team and won 5-4.”
Softball provides opportunities and lessons that Wilkett and others can apply to all aspects of their lives. The game against Broken Bow proved that it pays off to be resilient and never give up. Wilkett is thankful for the other lessons that softball has taught her.
“I’ve learned about responsibility and how whenever you’re a part of a team it’s about we and not me,” Wilkett said. “I’ve also learned that being on a team -especially the one I’m on right now-means that they have your back on and off the field no matter what.”
Off the field Wilkett also receives support from her friends and family is very grateful for their encouragement.
“My mom is my role model,” Wilkett said. “She has taught me about hard work and no matter what happens don’t give up and always finish to the best of your ability.”
In the classroom Wilkett said that her favorite subject is science and after high school she would like to attend college and work toward becoming a nurse practitioner.
