McAlester’s Kaylee Knight – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Compassion Home Health

Embarking on her basketball journey at McAlester High School, Kaylee Knight, a talented junior, shares her insights and aspirations this season.

Kaylee credits coach Kourtnee Beshears as her favorite coach: “Coach Beshears has been my favorite coach by a long shot.” Beyond basketball strategy, Beshears emphasizes team bonding and inclusivity, hosting Christmas parties and activities. Kaylee expresses gratitude for having such a supportive coach who extends care beyond the court.

Reflecting on influential teammates, Kaylee admires her sister, Katelynn Knight: “I admired my sister a lot when she was on the team.” Katelynn’s knowledge of plays and willingness to assist teammates left a lasting impact on Kaylee, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

Ms. Rachel Morris holds a special place as Kaylee’s favorite teacher: “Ms. Morris has always been positive and pushes us to do our best 100% of the time.” The encouragement and positive influence from teachers like Ms. Morris contribute to Kaylee’s academic and personal growth.

Kaylee’s off-season focus involves helping others: “I’ve helped others who don’t know the plays or those who are new to the team.” Teaching teammates not only enhances her understanding of the game but also builds her confidence, a crucial skill she aims to carry into everyday life.

Basketball teaches Kaylee valuable life lessons daily: “Something my sport has taught me that I use in my everyday life is to work hard for the things I want.”

One of Kaylee’s cherished memories involves the camaraderie during bus rides: “My favorite memory in my sport would have to be the bus rides.” These moments of laughter, rap battles and coaches joining in contribute to team bonding, creating lasting memories.

This season, Kaylee hopes to enhance her confidence: “I hope to accomplish better confidence on and off the court this season.” Recognizing the impact of confidence in various aspects of life, she aims to become a trustworthy teammate and develop skills applicable in future situations.

Post high school, Kaylee envisions attending college or another route: “I would like to go to college after high school or take a year of travel before going off to college.” Considering a potential career working with animals, perhaps as an exotic veterinarian, Kaylee remains open to exploring her passions and educational pursuits.
