For McAlester High School senior Elli Bass, success on the volleyball court is fueled by more than just a desire to win—it’s about achieving victory alongside her closest friends. “Winning is a great motivator. Also, having success with your teammates and friends is great motivation,” she explained. That sense of camaraderie is central to her role as both a setter and right-side hitter, positions that demand strong communication and trust among teammates.

Elli’s journey in volleyball has been marked by dedication and hard work. “Commitment” is what she credits for her success, a value she’s embraced throughout her athletic career. Her standout moment came during her sophomore year when she earned a spot on the varsity team. That achievement highlighted her skill and determination, setting the tone for the rest of her high school career.

Off the court, Elli is just as involved. A member of the National Honor Society, she balances academics with athletics while also making time for community service. This dedication to both her sport and her school highlights her well-rounded approach to life as a student-athlete.

Elli draws inspiration from those closest to her. “My biggest role models are my parents because they support me through everything,” she said. Their unwavering presence has helped her succeed in volleyball and in life. Additionally, her club coach, Ashley Monks, has played a significant role in shaping her volleyball career. “She taught me how to play my best game and helped me through school ball,” Elli explained, crediting her coach for pushing her to reach her full potential.

Looking ahead, Elli has big plans for her future. She will be attending Ole Miss to study radiology, a field she’s excited to explore after graduation. But before she moves on to the next chapter, she’s focused on making the most of her final season at McAlester.

For Elli, representing her school and community is an honor. “I grew up in McAlester watching sports, and now being able to be a part of it is really fun,” she shared. As she reflects on her journey, it’s clear that she hopes to leave a lasting impact. “The community helps my teams a lot, and I hope to make them proud of what we accomplish.”
