McAlester’s Rylan Lesnau – Softball Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst of McAlester

Rylan Lesnau, a dedicated and talented softball player at McAlester High School, has been passionate about the game from a very young age. “I started playing baseball at three years old and was the only girl on the team, starting at shortstop until I was nine, and then I decided to move to softball,” she recalled. Her early start and determination have taken her to national tournaments across the eastern United States and earned her a varsity starting position as a freshman.

Rylan’s love for softball is deeply rooted in her passion for the game. “My inspiration for softball is that I just love the game and I have always been passionate about it,” she said. Her biggest influence is her mom, who has always encouraged her to achieve great things. “My biggest influence would be my mom, how she wants me to do great things and play to the best of my ability, and she’s always been there for me.”

Team bonding is a crucial element for Rylan, contributing significantly to the team’s success. “Team bonding is very important to me; it boosted our team’s chemistry and morale this past season, creating a more effective and positive atmosphere,” she explained. Known as the team clown, Rylan’s main role is to keep the energy high, regardless of how the game is going. “My main role would be to always keep the energy up no matter how bad I’m playing or even the team.”

Her goals for the 2024 season are ambitious yet grounded in team growth. “My goals for the 2024 season are to make it to state and to grow as a team,” she shared.

One of the most challenging moments in her career came when she had to step into a leadership role as a freshman. “My most challenging moment in my career was having to step up in a leadership position as a freshman and prove myself to gain the upperclassmen’s respect.”

Looking ahead, Rylan sees herself continuing her athletic career. “In college, playing either softball or basketball.”

Rylan’s advice to younger players emphasizes perseverance and hard work. “There will be seasons that are tougher than others, just don’t give up and work hard through them. Also, always remember that your teammates are watching you, so be valuable, respectful, coachable, work hard and stand out.”
