In the competitive realm of McAlester High School basketball, Jada Ponce shines as a rising star.
Jada finds it difficult to pick just one favorite coach, as each has played a significant role in her development: “Coach Owen has been hard on me because he knows there is more in me to give. He has shown me how to be a leader and what playing as a team can do. Coach Redway has not given up on me. He has pushed me to want more from basketball. Because of him, colleges have looked at me and reached out to me. I don’t think that would have happened without his support and belief in me. Coach B is a coach you can open up to and talk about anything with.”
In the realm of teammates, Jada finds inspiration in Ty, Indya and Tori: “Ty, Indya and Tori are some of my biggest hype men as teammates. We can go head-to-head and always have a good time when we are practicing.”
Beyond the court, Jada recognizes influential teachers: “I’ve had several teachers that I could go back and sit in class with all over again. Ms. Jones, who is now Mrs. Ketchum, Mrs. McAfee, and Mrs. Deborah Williams.”
To better equip herself for the upcoming season, Jada focused on key aspects: “This off-season, I worked on lifting to get stronger, those defensive slides and some ball handling.”
Basketball has instilled a sense of responsibility in Jada: “Playing basketball has shown me a lot of responsibility. I have to be responsible on and off the court.”
Among the highlights of her basketball journey, Jada recalls a dream for any high school team: “My favorite memory is winning state in 2022.”
Looking ahead to the current season, Jada expresses her hopes. “This season, I’m hoping as a team we can pull off wins and go far.”
Jada eagerly anticipates a challenging matchup: “I’m ready to play Sapulpa. It’s going to be a tough game, but I believe we are ready for them.”
Beyond high school, Jada has clear plans: “After high school, I plan on playing college ball with Seminole State.”
Jada Ponce’s basketball journey at McAlester High School reflects determination, growth, and a commitment to both personal and team success. As she continues to make her mark on the court, Jada exemplifies the qualities of a dedicated student-athlete with a bright future in basketball.
