McAlester’s Trevin Simons

For McAlester senior Trevin Simons, the accomplishment he is most proud of did not happen on a football field or baseball diamond.

“Giving my life to Jesus Christ,” Simons said.

That decision has shaped his outlook on life and guided the way he approaches sports, relationships and service to others.

A two-sport athlete at McAlester High School, Simons said athletics have taught him the value of commitment and effort.

“Through sports, I have learned to give my all in anything I do,” he said.

Along the way, several people have helped shape the person he has become. Simons credits teacher Jennifer Lewis with teaching him an important lesson about making a difference.

“She taught me that what I do can have a positive effect on the world,” he said.

The relationships built through athletics have also left a lasting impact. Simons said teammate Gavin Mason has influenced him the most.

“My most impactful teammate is Gavin Mason, for his family has always treated me as one of their own,” Simons said.

Outside of sports, Simons volunteers at Renewal Church and participates in events through the Boys & Girls Club. Those opportunities have allowed him to stay involved in his community while serving others.

His favorite place in his hometown reflects what matters most to him.

“My favorite place in my hometown is wherever our church youth group is because every time we get together, we have a blast while honoring the Lord,” he said.

The best advice Simons has ever received continues to guide him.

“Life on Earth is only a small part of eternity,” he said. “Nothing is more important than God’s plan for my life, for an eternal life with him transcends all things on Earth.”

As he prepares to graduate, Simons is thankful for the support he has received throughout his journey. While he first credits God, he is especially grateful for his parents.

“I would like to thank my mom and dad for never pressuring me but always being the first to support me,” Simons said.

Whether in athletics, service or faith, Simons strives to give his best in everything he does.
