Wrestling is often described as one of the toughest sports, requiring equal parts mental and physical strength. For Kamden Hutchison, the journey has been fueled by the people closest to him. “The support I receive from friends and family motivates me,” he said. That encouragement has helped him navigate the challenges of competing at a high level, especially as he represents McAlester High School in the 126-pound weight class.
Kamden’s introduction to wrestling came through someone he looks up to the most—his older brother. “My big brother introduced me to the sport of wrestling and always pushed me to be my best,” he shared. Alongside his brother’s influence, Kamden credits his parents for shaping his journey. “My parents have given me immense support in all my endeavors.”
While wrestling demands relentless dedication, Kamden has also found support in the classroom. “Mrs. Gragg was my 7th-grade math teacher and is now my school’s Indian education director. She has always been there to lend a hand for anything—from needing school supplies or help on schoolwork to support at my athletic events,” he said. Balancing academics and athletics are no easy task, but Kamden embraces both, serving as the president of the Native American Club and a member of the National Honor Society.
When asked what it takes to be successful in his sport, Kamden’s answer was simple but powerful: “Unwavering dedication and determination to be the best I can be.” That mindset paid off in a big way this season. “Making dual state with my senior year wrestling team was the highlight moment of my career,” he said. Competing at that level was a testament to his years of hard work.
After high school, Kamden has ambitious plans beyond the wrestling mat. “I plan to attend OU for aerospace engineering,” he said. But before he moves on to the next chapter, he remains committed to representing McAlester with pride. “I wrestle to the best of my ability every time I step on the mat so I know I couldn’t have tried any harder for my school. I also think sportsmanship and humbleness are a very important way to represent the Buffaloes.”
