McAlester Soccer Spotlight with Haven Sutmiller – Presented by Cashmere Agency

VYPE: What are your goals for yourself and your team this season?

Haven: My goal for both my team and I is to improve in all elements of soccer, particularly positioning and proper use of space on the pitch.

VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year?

Haven: A moment that stands out in my mind is when my high school team and I made a comeback win leading into Spring Break. After all of the effort we put into that game to come out on top, it just felt like the perfect way to end the week and get some much-needed rest.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade or coach and why?

Haven: I would say my favorite teacher/coach that I have ever had would be my current coach. Coach Buie just recently started coaching soccer, but he is very easy to get along with. He is still very young which makes him relatable and more lenient toward the team’s shenanigans.

VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?

Haven: My junior year of high school, I was awarded Man of the Match eight times and awarded Offensive MVP of the season. That was a memory of mine that I look back on fondly.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?

Haven: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me is a friend of mine by the name of Jayden. Although I may be biased since I know him very well, he always stands up for me and can always crack a joke.

VYPE: Who on your team has the best impression of your coach and who says the funniest things during games?

Haven: Anytime a teammate attempts to do an impression of our coach, it comes across as mockery, which is arguably funnier. I would say the funniest on our team and best at doing an impression of our coach is Lucas. His jokes are often dry and very blunt, and as a result, can be mistaken for an insult and provocative. But that’s what makes him funny to me.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do you take with you?

Haven: Lately, I’ve had an interest in Japan and its culture, so if I had to pick anywhere to visit, it would probably be Japan. As for who I would bring with me, I would bring my brother. My brother and I are very similar when it comes to humor, so it would be easier to navigate our way around foreign lands since we can make light of our obliviousness with frequent joking.

VYPE: If we gave you $500 dollars and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, how would you spend it?

Haven: I have never been known to spend money recklessly, but if I could do so without any consequences, I would spend the money on books and other similar forms of entertainment.

VYPE: Here is your chance to say hello, goodbye or thank you to anyone you wish.

Haven: My parents have 100 percent earned my thanks. They have allowed me to participate in many activities both soccer-related and otherwise, often with money from their pocket. Other than my parents, I am thankful for my friends who have encouraged me, motivated me, and stuck up for me throughout the years. They are second only to the people who raised me.
