Jackson Morgan’s connection to baseball runs deep. From a young age, he played multiple sports but eventually decided to focus solely on baseball. “I played multiple sports when I was little and all the way through my junior high years, but I always felt more of a connection to baseball,” he says. “It’s how I made most of my friends, and it’s always been the sport that gave me the most joy.”
The camaraderie of little league left a lasting impact on Jackson’s love for the game. “My biggest influence for baseball would have to be the friends that I made in little league,” he explains. “I enjoyed the atmosphere of the games, and it felt good to play and have a good game.”
Now, as a first baseman for McAlester High School, Jackson is confident in his team’s potential this season. “I think our team’s chemistry this year will be very good. We’ve all played together and have fun together. Our moods this season are probably the best I’ve seen in all my years on this team. No one is mad at one another; we all just get along and have fun.”
For Jackson, preparation is key. “I prepare for games by doing my pregame stretches and getting my body loose so that I can move around and catch the throws from the other infielders,” he shares. His focus is on consistency at the plate. “I would like to have a good season at bat. Even if I just get a hit to move someone around on the bases, that is good enough for me.”
The road hasn’t always been easy. “My most challenging moment has been my shoulder. I tore my labrum in my right shoulder last season and had to get surgery. My recovery has been hard, but I’m working hard so that I can be ready for the season.”
One of his favorite memories on the field was a big win against a rival. “The most memorable moment I had last season was when we beat Tahlequah 4-1,” Jackson recalls. “I didn’t play well this game, but the team just had an amazing flow, and it was incredible to be a part of.”
Outside of baseball, Jackson loves spending time outdoors and in the skies. “I like to spend time on the lake going fishing or just going out with some friends for a day on the water. I also enjoy going flying with my dad,” he shares.
After high school, Jackson plans to pursue a career in aviation. “In five years, I see myself out of sports and finishing college to be a professional pilot.” For now, Jackson is focused on his senior season, representing McAlester High with pride and determination.
