McAlester’s Rylan Lesnau

McAlester High School senior Rylan Lesnau has embraced leadership both on and off the softball field, setting an example for her teammates through discipline, resilience and a steady work ethic.

As a senior, Lesnau said her biggest inspiration comes from her brother, whose commitment to his goals has shaped her own approach. “My brother inspires me because of his hard work and his dedication to his priorities,” she said.

Lesnau, a shortstop, plays one of the most demanding positions on the field. The role requires constant awareness, quick decision-making and versatility, something she has worked to master over time. “It’s often considered one of the hardest positions in softball because you’re involved in almost every play and have to do a little bit of everything,” she said.

Batting leadoff, Lesnau focuses on setting the tone early in games and giving her team momentum from the very first at-bat. She studies each situation carefully, keeping track of the score, pitcher tendencies and her teammates’ positioning. “I look toward getting on base to get us going,” she said.

Beyond her individual performance, Lesnau takes pride in being a leader who sets the standard for effort and accountability. “I enjoy being able to show up and be a leader and be a player my teammates can look up to and work hard to become better as a team every day,” she said.

That team-first mentality extends to how the Lady Buffaloes handle adversity. “No matter how bad of a loss we have or bad practice, we always keep our spirit up and energy,” she said.

Lesnau carries a simple philosophy that guides her both in sports and life: “Work hard when no one is watching and stay humble when everyone is.”

Off the field, Lesnau enjoys working out and spending time with family and friends. In the classroom, she favors history and credits teacher Mrs. Barr as her favorite.

Whether diving for ground balls or leading off an inning, Lesnau said persistence remains key. “No matter how many times you fail or do not do something to your best ability, you always keep moving forward because you’ll always have another chance,” she said.
