McAlester’s Katy Ivy

Some of Katy Ivy’s favorite memories were never about a final score or a medal. They were made during long drives to games, weekends spent at tournaments and countless hours alongside the family members who helped shape her love for sports.

A junior at McAlester High School, Ivy stays busy competing in softball, basketball, track and cheer. Athletics have been a major part of her life for as long as she can remember. Her father has coached her throughout much of her journey, while her older sister, Ryleigh, gave her someone to look up to as she developed both as an athlete and a person.

“The practices, games, trips and time spent together have helped shape me into the person I am today,” Ivy said. “I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m even more grateful for all the memories and support my family has given me along the way.”

The lessons she has learned through sports continue to influence her every day. Ivy credits athletics with teaching her the importance of hard work, commitment and perseverance. She has learned that mistakes are part of the process and that growth often comes from how a person responds to challenges.

“Sports have shown me how important it is to stay committed, push through challenges and support the people around me,” she said.

Away from competition, Ivy is involved in the Bio-Med Program at Kiamichi Tech Center and is a member of both HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) and the Native American Club. Those activities reflect her desire to challenge herself academically while preparing for future opportunities.

One piece of advice continues to guide her: “You’ll never know until you try.” The simple message has encouraged Ivy to take chances, pursue new experiences and push beyond her comfort zone.

As she continues her high school career, Ivy remains grateful for the support system that has always been in her corner. She credits her parents and sister for helping her become the athlete, student and person she is today, and she carries those lessons with her wherever the journey leads.
