McAlester’s Rylan Lesnau – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by BancFirst McAlester

Growth on the field doesn’t happen overnight, and Rylan Lesnau is focused on that long-term journey. “My goals for this season are to grow as a player and leader,” she said.

The McAlester squad hasn’t taken the offseason lightly. “We have started working all throughout the summer with reps and to get to know one another so we can have a good bond throughout the season,” Lesnau shared.

As that bond has formed, the team has also embraced a mentality of consistent improvement. “We have learned to be patient at getting better every game and every practice.”

Winning is always a motivator, but for this team, building something that lasts goes deeper. “Our goal this season is to build our team throughout the season, get better and work hard every day without giving up.”

That foundation is rooted in perspective. “Our biggest strength is having a positive mindset no matter how we are playing or how tough it gets.”

Versatility is one of Lesnau’s trademarks, and her coach knows she can handle any challenge. “My position is shortstop but I’m comfortable with any position coach puts me at.”

When it comes to studying opponents, she watches closely for subtle tells. “By reading the other team’s body language and the positioning of the players.”

Her gameday routine keeps things sharp. “I hit before every game and warm up my arm so I’m in the best form to perform for my team.”

Once she steps onto the diamond, her approach is clear. “My mindset is to just go out there and play for my team and do my thing and try to not overthink things and play to my best ability.”

And while her skill stands out, Rylan hopes what truly defines her legacy is deeper than stats. “I want to be inspiring to future players by my hard work ethic, never giving up, staying humble, always leading with good character, and never having selfish thoughts.”

Those who’ve watched this team up close know how much they’ve overcome. “People see that the girls have stayed true to the program and worked through adversity.”

And her favorite memory? “My first home run in regionals last season.”
